Greece & Shore Excursions

Famed for its sun-drenched islands and ancient ruins, Greece has been called the “cradle of Western civilization” and one of southeastern Europe’s most captivating destinations. Wander the ancient Acropolis of Athens to admire the Parthenon and go hiking through the pine forests and gorges of nearby Mount Parnitha National Park.

Travel west to explore the alpine meadows and scented woodlands of Parnassos National Park and explore the ancient ruins of majestic Delphi. Or head to the Peloponnese to explore the atmospheric medieval villages and monasteries of Arkadia, wander the 3,500-year-old ruins of Mycenae and admire the Venetian and Ottoman architecture in Greece’s first capital, Navplion.

On the west coast of Greece lies the island home of Odysseus, Ithaca, home to the cave of nymphs and tiny coves backed by pine forests and olive groves. It’s also here that you’ll find the Ionian jewel of Lefkada where you can go hiking through ancient oak forests to natural springs and waterfalls or sun bake on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean.

Travel north to UNESCO World Heritage-listed Meteora where ancient monasteries teeter atop towering pinnacles, having been built to house monks fleeing Turkish invaders. Then go wildlife spotting to see lynx, wild cat and wolves in the Valia Kalda Valley of the Northern Pindos.

In the far north lies the cosmopolitan city of Thessaloniki, which exhibits influences from its Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman rulers. It’s an ideal base for visiting the monasteries of Athos or heading to Greece’s highest peak and home to its ancient gods - Mount Olympus.

For some visitors, Greece is all about the islands, from the charismatic caldera of Santorini to the spirited villages of Crete. Party into the early hours in the whitewashed streets of Mykonos, explore the ancient towns of Rhodes and follow in the footsteps of “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” on Kefalonia.
