Visiting: Temple of Artemis, Ephesus, Terrace Houses, Virgin Mary House, St. John Basilica, Selcuk Ottman Castle Panaroma, Pigeon Castle Panaroma

Duration: 12 hours

As you arrive in Marmaris Harbour, look for your guide who will be there with a name placard to attract your attention, ready to take you exploring some of Selcuk's most incredible ruins and historical sights.

Temple of Artemis
We begin at the Temple of Artemis which dates back to the 6th century BC and has been hailed as one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. It was built by the Lycian King, Kreisos, and while some of its ruins are now housed in London's British Museum, its large marble foundations are still standing in their original place, allowing you to envisage its former grandeur.

Ephesus
Our next stop is the Ancient City of Ephesus, once a thriving Roman City that dates back to the 10th century BC and contains some of the world's best preserved ruins. You guide will explain the history behind the Temple of Hadrian, the Great Theater and the famed Celsius Library that once housed over 12,000 scrolls. Whilst at Ephesus you will also get to visit the famous Terrace Houses, home to the rich and famous of their time. They had heated flooring and their own private hamaam baths in them, while being beautifully decorated with ornate tiling and mosaic flooring.

House of the Virgin Mary
A short distance from Ephesus, atop a hill with fantastic panoramic views, lies the House of the Virgin Mary. It is believed that John the Baptist brought the mother of Christ to this small cottage to live out her final days and it now serves as an important pilgrimage site for people of all walks of life.

St. John Basilica
Back in the center of Selcuk sits St John Basilica, believed to have been built upon the remains of John the Apostle and once one of the region's holiest churches. It dates back to 548 AD and was architecturally styled on Istanbul's Church of the Holy Apostles.

Selcuk Ottoman Castle Panorama
With a commanding position just above the Basilica of St John sits the ruined Selcuk Ottoman Castle, a fantastic place to take in the views across the historical lands that lie beneath.

Pigeon Castle Panorama
We will finish the day at Pigeon Island that juts into the ocean on the edge of Kusadasi town. Not only is it home to an ancient Byzantine Castle and museum, but it offers a beautiful spot to watch the sunset and reflect on the day's activities.
